Mission Statement
This whole endeavor really is a family affair. And I consider my doctors, my staff, my clients and their pets to be a part of that extended family. My parents took a leap of faith in starting a one-doctor, full-service, TRUE mixed-animal/family veterinary practice over 40 years ago. Although the clinic has grown and expanded, we still remain focused on providing the best and most inclusive care for every client and every animal who walks through the door. You take your pet’s health seriously and so do I. It’s personal.
I strongly adhere to the guiding principle that if we know better, we can do better. I hope all the staff and doctors have followed my example as we continually strive to expand our knowledge, capabilities, and services. Schumacher Veterinary Clinic offers routine wellness, dentistry, medical and surgical care for both Large AND Small Animals. We also offer many additional services such as advanced imaging with digital and computed radiology units, endoscopy and ultrasound, and advanced soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries (including TPLO and locking technology for fracture repair). Non-traditional treatment modalities such as veterinary rehabilitation, acupuncture, cold laser, and chiropractic care are also available. House calls may be arranged with advance notice.
In order to comply with current State protocols and physical spacing constraints, we will continue to operate in a curbside manner until further notice. Special arrangements can be made for visiting hospitalized patients and for euthanasia procedures. Curbside service and evolving safety protocols are an immense burden on the staff but are the only way we can continue to help you and your pets. Please be patient, polite, and remember to thank the reception staff and assistants who work so hard to serve you! We reserve the right to refuse service to any party who cannot comply with current health regulations.
We offer emergency services-365/24/7-for CURRENT and ESTABLISHED clients ONLY [those accounts which have been active within the last calendar year]. We regret that we are not accepting new clients at this time. This enables us to focus our complete attention on helping our regular patients. Please try to book appointments for wellness care and elective procedures as far in advance as possible. This enables us to keep a limited number of “drop-off” appointments open on a daily basis for daytime emergencies or other urgent care.

Dr. Kyle Schumacher
Dr. Kyle was born and raised in the Mesilla Valley. She played local high school and club softball and then competed at the collegiate level while attending Trinity University for her undergraduate work. Dr. Kyle graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University in 2005 and joined the practice shortly thereafter. Dr. Kyle has professional interests in equine reproduction and dentistry. She also enjoys treating canine athletes and working dogs and has additional training in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine, veterinary rehabilitation, acupuncture, and animal chiropractic. Dr. Kyle is active in dog sports-she began competing in agility during veterinary school and has been successful with multiple dogs on both the National and International levels. She and her husband, Todd, have also recently taken up dock diving! Kyle and Todd also enjoy camping and hiking through the Gila and Sacramentos in their free time.

Dr. William Schumacher
Dr. William Schumacher retired from full-time practice in 2015.
It has been over 40 years since Dr. Schumacher made the move to start his own veterinary practice in Las Cruces. Dr. Schumacher and his wife, Kay, were the only employees at first. Business slowly grew along with the Las Cruces community and eventually, they were able to hire their first employee. Now, there are almost 25 employees, including multiple veterinarians, one of whom is Dr. Schumacher’s daughter, Dr. Kyle Schumacher. You might still see Dr. Schumacher in the hospital or performing North Valley out-calls on occasion, but he is very busy in retirement-Dr. Schumacher was always an avid gardener, but now devotes more time to woodworking, fly-tying, and even some traveling!

Dr. Cayla Pinheiro
Dr. Pinheiro is originally from Telkwa in British Columbia, Canada. She graduated in April of 2021 from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan and joined our practice in July 2021. Before attending Veterinary school Dr. Pinheiro volunteered at Rainbow Riders, a therapeutic riding school for children with disabilities. She loves riding, fishing, and especially traveling..which brought her to New Mexico! Dr. Pinheiro is enjoying the experience of mixed animal practice and all that the desert has to offer.

Dr. Cayce Cover
Dr. Cayce Cover is a 2021 graduate of Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She grew up in Oklahoma on a 500+ acre working horse and cattle ranch but spent the majority of the last 15 years living in some wonderful places in Southern California and Western Montana. She moved to Las Cruces shortly after graduation with her two favorite feline sidekicks, Dinah and Rumble (more affectionately referred to as Dinny and BooBoo), and her horse Bubbles. Dr. Cover enjoys hiking and exploring mountains, immersing herself in a good book, and spending any time she can riding her horse. Dr. Cover’s professional interests include equine medicine and small animal surgery. She looks forward to her career here at Schumacher Veterinary Clinic and is ready to provide excellent veterinary care to all of your pets.

Dr. Allison Stout
Dr. Stout grew up on the ranches around Silver City New Mexico and even worked here in the clinic as an undergrad. After Graduating from NMSU he attended Veterinary College at Tufts University in Boston, finishing in 1987. He worked 10 years as a Smoke Jumper for the USFS during summer breaks. Dr. Stout’s local practice focuses mainly on cattle and large animal work, but we are always glad to have him lend a helping hand in the hospital. He enjoys outdoor sports and packing his mules into the Gila Wilderness. Dr. Stout and his wife Jan, have been married for over three decades and have two adult daughters and two grandchildren. Dr. Stout helps us with basic surgical and medical care on a part-time/seasonal basis and is always a great asset!

Dianne Thurston
Dianne Thurston is the Office Manager for Schumacher Veterinary Clinic and the newest management team member. Mrs. Thurston completed her MBA at the University of Phoenix with emphases in Technology and Management and also holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Methodist College in Fayetteville, NC. Her background for the past 20 years has been in the management and advisory fields of strategy consulting, communications and electronics systems engineering, business process and strategic planning, resource management and planning, sourcing, development and implementation, governance, and independent verification and validation services. Mrs. Thurston, her two feisty middle-aged felines, and her husband of 3 years recently moved to Las Cruces from the El Paso, TX area. Mr. and Mrs. Thurston love to hike in their free time and both have a healthy affinity for astronomy!

Patricia McAdams, CCRT
Patricia (aka “Po”) joined the Schumacher family 24 years ago. She originally worked at the front desk, but then moved back as an assistant after 4 years. Patricia is certified in canine rehabilitation, is one of our main surgical technicians, and leads our team of Veterinary Assistants. Patricia’s infinite patience and persistence has helped many orthopedic and neurological cases to succeed in regaining function and mobility-she’s an enormous asset to the practice. Most people don’t realize that away from work, Patricia is an avid Star-Trek buff and movie aficionado!

Katie Simpson
Katie has been with the Schumacher family since 2007. She is one of our most experienced assistants and helps by managing our inventory, fixing anything and everything (!), and especially in coordinating mobile work and farm calls. She and her daughter have a small farm at home which includes, 7 dogs, 4 cats, numerous chickens, ducks, and 2 horses. She enjoys spending her time camping, fishing, and horseback riding.

Jodi Lindsey
Jodi was born and raised in Las Cruces and has always had a love for animals. She was heavily involved in FFA and 4-H and still breeds and raises Angus/Maine Anjou cattle with her Dad. She has been at Schumacher Veterinary Clinic for 8 years and although she enjoys working with dogs and cats, her passion still lies with large animals. Jodi is currently taking courses at San Juan Community Colleges and pursuing her degree as a Veterinary Technician. When not busy at the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her family, hiking and camping with her Blue Heeler, Charlie, and helping with her family farm and cattle operation.

Michelle Morales
Michelle, or “Mo,” as she is affectionately known is a familiar face around the clinic and a literal jack-of-all-trades. Michelle started with us over 16 years ago as an EXCEL student through Mayfield High School. She stayed on as an Assistant for many years and then made the move upfront as one of our head Customer Service Representatives. Michelle can do almost any job in the clinic, from answering phones to helping in surgery. She’s also very experienced in handling avian and exotic patients and is a real-life Chihuahua whisperer!

Sandra Hendrix
Sandra Hendrix helps our management team by heading operations at Argus Pet Center and handling our Accounting. Sandra hails from northern New Mexico with a background in rodeo and 4-H before moving to Las Cruces to attend New Mexico State where she received a BBA with a major in Business Computer Systems and a minor in Economics, then continuing on to finish her MBA while working at NMSU. Sandra retired from NMSU after 30 years of service and joined the Schumacher team in 2020. Sandra has always enjoyed working with animals and has extensive experience in canine sports, including both agility and obedience. Sandra’s “furry kids” are often found supervising operations at Argus Pet Center-Jolt is an accomplished agility champion and Rapid is her newest pup and rising superstar!

Todd Harper
Todd and Dr. Kyle met during high school and they’ve been together ever since! A Las Cruces native, Todd is a Mechanical Engineer by training, but in addition to his “regular job”-he is always around the clinic to help with any computer or construction projects and we occasionally call on him to design and manufacture custom products for some of our REALLY BIG patients! You’ll also see him helping out with the occasional emergency or horse call. Todd’s family is heavily involved in organic pecan farming and custom harvesting throughout the Mesilla Valley. Todd enjoys fishing and hiking, but he also likes to go fast during the summer you’ll find him driving the Del Valle Pecans/Schumacher Veterinary Clinic #3T USRA Modified at Vado Speedway Park! Todd and Kyle have been managing the clinic since October 2015.
